WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

Air Pollution

What is Air Pollution? How Can You Fight It?

Air pollution is an extreme risk to the health of others. If exposed to polluted air you could receive lots of health effects: heart cancer, lung cancer, worsened asthma, and even premature death. Polluted air can come from factories. Use public transportation. Plant a garden. By green energy. Use natural gas not charcoal. Reduce, reuse, and recycle.

Water Pollution

What is Water Pollution? How can you Fight It?

When Water pollution is found within an ecosystem, it leads to a long road of ruin. If polluted water ends up in rivers or streams it could damage the lives living around it, including vegetation. If the vegetation is destroyed, then this will affect the animal life that depends on the vegetation in that environment. This chain of events is a domino effect that will in the end hurt lakes, and even the ecosystem of the ocean. For reference, polluted water can come from oil spills. Keep oils, fat, or grease out of the sink. Dispose trash properly. Conserve water. Skip the use of plastic. Dispose motor oil and batteries correctly.

Land Pollution

What Is Land Pollution? How Can You Fight It?

Land pollution, specifically plastic waste has a large effect on the environment and climate change. The more plastic we use, the more it falls into animal habitats, oceans, parks and sidewalks. Consequently, this affects the quality of life for animals, as well as the quality of public places. Also, we use fossil fuels to help make plastic, and the more single use plastic there is, the more of a waste those fossil fuels are. Recycle. Reduce Waste. Buy Organic Products. Avoid using chemicals in farming.

Radioactive Pollution

What is Radioactive? How Can You Fight It?

Radioactive pollution occurs because of the mining of radioactive materials or the testing of radioactive weapons. Radioactive pollution can have some awful effects on plants, animals and people that are nearby it. Everything from radioactive burns too long term health effects such as cardiovascular disease and cancer can happen if exposed to high levels of radiation. An example of radioactive pollution is Chernobyl. The effects of radioactive pollution can be felt by future generations. Disposing of Radioactive waste properly. Banning nuclear tests, and using other forms of renewable energy.

Noise Pollution

What is Noise Pollution? How can you Fight It?

Noise pollution has an enormous effect on wildlife and causes serious damage to the environment. Interfering with breeding cycles, nurturing and advancing the extinction of some species are a few of the effects of noise pollution. Plus, according to the EAA, “noise is responsible for 16,000 premature human deaths and more than 72,000 hospitalizations  in Europe every year”. Wear noise cancelling headphones to protect your hearing. Upgrade Your Insulation. Turn off electrical appliances. Places trees or fences around your house - these barriers absorb sound waves and reduce environmental noise.

Light Pollution

What Is Light Pollution? How Can You Fight It?

Light pollution is the presence of artificial light in the environment, especially at night. Making it hard for astronomers to research, as well as disturbing the environment and messing with nocturnal animals such as owls are some of the pollution’s effects. Also, this issue affects birds that might hunt or migrate during the night by starlight. Finally, Light pollution is a big waste of energy all over the world. Keeping blinds and shades down at night, and only putting lights where they are necessary outside. Turning off lights when you aren't using them, along with using IDA approved light fixtures all help combat light pollution.

Thermal Pollution

What Is Thermal Pollution? How Can You Fight It?

Thermal pollution is the dispense of heated or cold water from power plants into nearby bodies of water. Aquatic animals are severely threatened by this issue and are dying due to the thermal shock. This sudden loss of life provokes further issues for the environment. Furthermore, marine life is affected by reproductions difficulties and lower disease resistance. Treat heated water from the industries before placing it in bodies of water. Recycling water.
